RIYL: Bell Witch, Graves at Sea, Asunder, My Dying Bride, Wolvserpent
These LOCAL guys caught the underground's attention with their 2011 demo and now they finally deliver their proper debut album and it doesn't disappoint. Slow, but not glacially slow, dynamic, melodic, layered, beautiful. In addition to the doom, they even sprinkle in some black metal influences just to keep you on your toes. Play anything, it's all great!
1.) (11:38) Slow, beautiful funeral doom with some post-metal vibes. Deep tranquil growls. At 7:00, we get a brief black metal interlude. Clean vocal chants under growls near end. Very melodic.
2.) (9:37) This is kinda like older My Dying Bride (with the deep growls and the slow sad melodies). Less post-metal feel here.
3.) (20:35) Starts clean, slowly builds, at 2:00 I got shivers, guitars pluck slightly distorted chords, chants, growls, slow melancholy abounds, but it keeps picking up steam, then blistering black metal with blastbeats, then eases off and slows back down…you get the picture. This song is all about dynamics and crescendos. At 13:00 it falls back to calm shimmery drone feedback noise. Fade this one out a minute or so early. This song is where it's fucking at.
