Speedy Ortiz Major Arcana Released 7/8/2013 Lo-fi indie rock reminiscent of the 90s, led by female vocalist Sophie Dupuis. The band is based in Boston. Lead singer Sophie Dupuis is working toward a master’s degree in poetry at UMass. Major Arcana is their first full length album. Similar to Pavement / early Liz Phair / voice like Jenny Lewis *=recommend 1. 3:36 Pioneer Spine. clear, crisp vocals. mid-paced, brooding alt rock. crunchy guitar. 2. 2:45 Tiger Tank. grungy. 3. *2:35 Hitch. upbeat. Catchy guitar melody. 4. 2:48 Caspar. starts with mellow guitar. cool melody. 5. 3:43 No Below. moody, emotional song. fuzzy guitar. FCC: fucked up 6. 3:25 Gary. slow twangy guitar intro, builds up mid-way through. then song ends with a lot of noise and energy. music pauses for a few seconds, then continues at around 3:05. 7. 2:05 Fun. upbeat, pop rock. says “getting my dick sucked on the regular” at 1:39 8. *3:34 Cash Cab. noisy, fuzzy intro. lo-fi fuzzy vocals. changes pace mid-way through. but grungy all the way. 9. *2:53 Plough. pleading vocals. upbeat and steady drumming. catchy chorus. last ten seconds are quiet. FCC: fuck 10. 7:07 MKVI. cool guitar riff intro. grungy. delicious guitar throughout the song. at 5:00 feedback for a minute. then just noise until song ends. | ||
