Garage pop from Oakland; Warm Soda is the new project of ex-Bare Wires’ frontman Matthew Melton. Glam and power pop are both huge influences, punk shows up here and there. Lo-fi production, (great) AM radio vocals, tons of hooks and solos, and a tight, active, poppy rhythm section. On John Dwyer (Thee Oh Sees frontman)’s label Castle Face. Tracks sound pretty similar, so if you like one you’ll like em all. FCC clean. RIYL: King Tuff, Black Lips, Big Star, T. Rex, current SF garage scene.

*1 (2:14) Driving bass, scratchy vox high in the mix, awesome hooks
2 (2:18) Upbeat rhythm, slightly slower, frustrated/reassuring vocals
3 (2:54) Teen angst anthem pays tribute to pop music in the tradition of VU Rock and Roll, Ramones Rock and Roll High School
4 (1:44) Darker, snarling, straightforward
*5 (2:33) Super catchy verses, great hooks, light reverb on the vox, a few “ahh-hhh-hhhs
6 (2:43) Alternates between driving rhythm and Vivian Girls-sounding chorus, if they could play their instruments, back when they couldn’t
7 (2:17) Crunchy guitars (on the light side of crunchy), layered vocals
8 (1:23) Largely bass-driven, crunchy again, catchy whistling behind chorus
9 (2:16) Pounding drums, high vox; loud, repetitive chorus, power pop ballad
10 (1:52) Great guitar/bass interplay, some comparatively slower vocal parts
11 (2:26) Bitter, vox a bit subdued, loud riffs
*12 (2:58) Teeny feeling, lots of rock and roll references; last minute fucking rocks with a searing, whirring, screeching guitar solo
