Piano trio, playing somewhat free form versions of classic standards. Great harmonies, interesting interplay of each of the instruments. Mellow at points, somewhat chaotic at others, but never really dissonant.

Favorites: Ambleside, Airegin

1. (11:23) Embraceable You – Nice piano intro, then free form jazz over the melody (piano solo, bass solo, trading fours with drums).
2. (6:09) Ascendant – Bouncing tune with bass and drums at first, piano starts soloing half way through.
3. (7:29) One Step Closer – Rubato piano soloing with rhythm backgrounds, bass solo halfway. Interesting chords.
4. *(9:27) Ambleside – Mid-tempo jazz waltz (doesn’t really show that until about hallway through), nice piano solos.
5. (8:44) Melancholia – Sort of “frenzied” ballad, nice piano voicings, with bass and drums noodling in the background a bit.
6. (10:57) Conception – Probably the most chaotic tune on the album. A melody is clear, but trio makes it very free form and arrhythmic.
7. *(14:00) Airegin – Also very free form, reinterpretation of famous tune. Somewhat chaotic playing, but still has some movement. Sort of a showcase piece.
