Lettuce – Fly

Psychedelic, jazzy, dubby FUNK outa Brooklyn. Very distinctive styles and time signatures, but all very much FUNKY (and mostly instrumentals!)
No FCCs – only track 7 has (innocuous) vocals. 6 and 9 best.
1. 5:20 **long noodly intro, then slow, leisurely funky stroll with processed flutes.
2. 5:00 ***uptempo Disco-funk. Where are my platform boots?
3. 6:27 ***slow, grunty, soul crawl. Tribute to Zigaboo Modaliste.
4. 4:17 **energetic, chugging groove, lots of horns.
5. 3:47 **midtempo hip wiggler. Nice little bridge…
6. 4:47 ****a bit uptempo, with wah wah guitar and horns, schweet! Goes all psychedelic in the middle.
7. 4:11 ***downtempo retro-funk with handclaps – and vocals! Goodness! Very 70’s.
8. 5:37 **downtempo stroll, tuneful bassline, simple bridge.
9. 6:39 ****slow syncopated super funky strut with boppy happy bits. Cute proggy interval in middle. Bongos.
10. 6:42 ***downtempo sashay – instrumental version of the War classic, although you almost have to know that it is in order to tell… Psychedelic guitar solo.
11. 4:28 ***very slow with wah wah, very big sound – ponderous, deeply pyschedelic in middle. Dude. I’m seeing trails.
12. 6:43 **very trippy free-form intro, midtempo spacy jazzy thing. Nice workout for the horns.
13. 5:16 **downtempo, very relaxed, jazzy.
