Dala, Canadian folk-pop duo, is singer/guitarist/songwriters Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine. The style ranges from alt-trad to girlish light pop. Their light-rock DNA is shared with fellow Canadians Feist, Alanis, (perhaps even the clan’s matriarch Joni), and mixed with pretty-folk-pop like Colby Caillet. Focus on good singing, with light accompaniment.
No FCC issues
** Mid-slow. Begins quite folkie: acoustic guitars and touches of mandolin & pedal steel. Nice harmony singing. Toward the end, fuller & more lush with strings. Good song. (3:56)
Mid-tempo. Syrupy strings; childishly sentimental lyrics, silly sounding ukulele. (1:58)
* Mid-slow folk song. The courageous “I’m doing ok” attitude in the lyric reminded me of Alanis’s “Hand in my Pocket.” Mainly acoustic guitar, good singing. (3:32)
Mid-tempo. Piano-based silly pop song about a love between opposites. (2:59)
* Slow, sad ballad. Just acoustic guitars and lovely harmony singing. (3:55)
Mid-tempo. Happy pop love song. Acoustic guitar & piano. (Think Colby Caillet) (3:33)
* Mid-slow. Intriguing lyric about an unusual relationship with her father. This song brought to mind Tori Amos. Accompanied by piano, guitar, and strings. (2:51)
* Mid-slow. Good folk-pop. Acoustic guit, mandolin, pedal steel. Tight harmony. (3:39)
** Very folkie. Just acoustic guitar & singing. A woman has past away. (Who?) (3:05)
Mid-slow. Girlish remembrances of teenage love. Taylor Swift does this better. (3:03)
Slow. Mellow love song. Breathy singing over piano, then strings. (3:06)
(Not listed) Silly old-timey singing interrupted by giggling. (1:16)
