Jean-Claude Vannier / “Roses Rouge Sang” / B-music
All in French. Male vocals, more spoken than sung. Obvious comparison of Serge Gainsbourg, but definitely not predictable pop - the style is more loungey rock with electric guitars and strings added for drama. Sometimes hard to make out a melody at first, but you want to listen to it again. Chords are definitely not predictable. Some really nice riffs, and sometimes sounds like things don’t fit, but it’s mostly enjoyable.

Favorite tracks: 3, 7, 8
1. 0:34 Orchestra tuning up, random French talking.
2. 5:00 Slow beat, electric guitar (occasional riffs sound Hendrix-esque), strings, grows on you about halfway through.
3. *4:00 Midtempo, dramatic strings, keyboard/synth touches, mysterious.
4. 3:15 Slow, heavy distored guitar, echoey piano, strange sequence of chords/build up, but it’s nice!
5. 2:39 Slow, slightly discordant random instruments (accordion!), cool.
6. 3:33 Slow, dramatic guitar, etc.
7. *3:21 Midtempo, cool percussive touches, nice electric guitar.
8. *3:19 Eerie strings, background sounds almost like a foreign movie score. Beautiful background melody.
9. 3:47 Starts off slight, minimal, electric guitar, discord comes in, then goes back - kind of confusing.
10. 4:15 Starts off eerie, nice piano comes in, a little cheesy at times.
