In Senegal, when you’re born, they automatically give you a kora. Really! It’s true! I heard it on Oprah! OK, maybe not, but it seems like it with all the fabulous musicians to come out of there. Kouyate is a griot w/a warm, expressive, understated voice and a nice, subtle style. It’s just him and a kora, so nothing explosive, just a lot of very nice music, mostly mid/downtempo.

1. Slow, quiet, and stoft. Lyrical and really lovely.
*2. Bright beginning, spoken word. Then a soft mid/uptempo river.
*3. Sweet voices, kora. A warm, happy little song.
4. Subtle, recorded voices then a downtempo, lazy sound.
5. Kora instrumental. Down/midtempo, nicely played throughout.
6. Downtempo, soaring vox/ quiet strings. Rather sad.
7. Sweet but sad song urging peace. Gentle & moving.
*8.Soaring voice, a downtempo love song. Faster strings at end.
9. Nicely played, downtempo w/a sense of history & reverence.
