Actually intelligent pop. Found Magazine publishes notes and other discarded artifacts that its contributors find lying around, along with the circumstances of their discovery. The songs on this collection incorporate or are inspired by four of these finds, in styles ranging from indie-pop to beatless electronica to minimal zydeco. Note that this 7” should be played at 33rpm. No FCC’s.

The audio diary 12-year old who wishes she were 13 interspersed with buzzy distorted guitars, keyboard and steady drums. The words are full of the same naiveté, stupid longing, and discontent and self-doubt that probably characterized your tweenhood too, and the interplay between the music and the audio diary is hilarious.
A love-lorn British couple’s answering machine messages to each other layered over slightly self-consciously ethereal electronica without a beat.
Triumphal/elegiac distorty country-folk-indie-pop with harmonica! Lyrics, delivered in an unpolished male voice, are a meditation on the provenance of a beat-up discarded playing card with “Ingrid” written on it. Features speculation on Ingrid’s probable hard-heartedness.
Minimal zydeco with acoustic guitar, rockin’ drums and tuneless high accordion set against a guy with a strong Scottish accent singing a melodramatic note about lost love found in a bible in a New Orleans hotel room. If he sounds like that dude from the Mekons, well, that’s because he is.
