Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Experimental saxophonist Haas teams up with guitarist Don Fiorino for a decidedly trippy dreamy worldy experience. Dissonant use of the instruments in an ethereal manner, very similar to the works of John Hassel, Eno, Derek Baily. Lovely stuff from Toronto artist who goes back the 80’s non-sensation new wave punk band Martha and the Muffins.

1) (4:24) Waning Empire Blues - downtempo spacey, drum beat has a table quality and instruments are slidey and bendy and trippy and string based (guitar etc) 2) (3:25) American Nocturne – treated horns appear in this more laid back sultry piece 3) (7:54) Degenerate Time – spazzy percussion and a more free jazz improv tone 4) (4:33) Prophets – tabla appears in ernest 5)* (9:13) tripped out effects, synth-like to begin, a middle eastern Oud type stringed thing in with the melee, cool 6) (2:43) Profits – abstract improv free feel with wacky percussion type effects, sax, random guitar 7) (6:00) Falling Rockets – slow drum beat, treated heavily, guitar figures highly in this meandering piece where the drums just want to surface and tease an actual beat at one point 8) (3:24) New Orphans – mostly abstract improv feel, collage 9) (5:07) False Witness – a drum beat again tries to break in but isn’t allowed to fully
