First release from the Wilson Banjo Co of South Carolina. Hailed as “solid, contemporary BG, firmly rooted in the tradition,” yet reaching out and beyond the boundaries of Bluegrass, This album has something for (almost) everybody. Ranging from traditional Bluegrass to country rock to something in between, the songs stay lively and unique with a variety of instruments, different styles and 5 different members alternating the lead vocals. All over, very nice. Mainly unique renditions of classics and two originals. Best for me:
2:53 med/fast - traditional BG
3:16 med/fast - version of “Catfish John,” a country classic**
3:32 med- Title track- contemporary BG, fun, approachable and interesting**
3:20 med- Michael Martin Murphey’s heartwarming song about the Carolinas
2:36 med/fast- instrumental written by band member Steve Wilson
3:55 med - rendition of “Her Sunday Best,” an Appalachian classic**
3:01 med/fast - traditional toe-tapping BG style
4:13 slow/med- fabulous BG version of gospel classic****
3:16 med - banjo heavy country rock with male and female vocal harmony
3:14 med - the dobro plays a main role in this BG tune
3:25 med- Flatt & Scrugg’s classic with a banjo behind the beat for effect
2:36 med/fast - trad BG with some fantastic banjo pickin’
2:57 med- original tune written and sung by banjo player Steve Wilson (trad BG)
2:49 slow/med - sounds like an ancient BG recording, then becomes spiritual**
