Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2017-11-14
Sludge noise from hell. Extreme music bringing to mind elements of Khanate, early Swans, DJ Scud/Ambush (drill and bass), Merzbow, NON, noice. This release is a collaboration between duo The Body and grindcore band Full of Hell. All songs are beyond sludge, are pure bombastic molten dissonance. The Body’s vocals are no so much a traditional vehicle for lyrics as a very creepy additional musical instrument, a banshee’s death wail. Full of Hell contributes more “standard” grind vocs where such things might appear. This work includes electronic sources, hence the mention of drill and bass, Ambush records above. It adds to the creepiness. The music that haunts, would have haunted the nightmares of Michael Gira, Jeffery Dahmer.

1) (3:36) huge beat, a certain beauty about this with a lilting subtle melody shining through the clouds above the stinking rotting corpse littered killing field below, devolves to noise in end 2) (3:14) faster paced, almost upbeat rockin, more grindcore 3) (3:45) heeaaaavvvvy slow plod, makes early Swans sound like Mr Rodger 4)* (5:11) slow sick plod, industrial flare, evil vocals are more decipherable 5) (4:49) noise fades in then “free jazz” spazz out drums, vocalizations, pure noise 6) (4:51) electrobeats start, after 90 seconds a huge slow sludge steps in amongst the beats, drill and bass noise comes to mind 7)* (4:34) bizarre walls of thrash, interspersed with electro noise, then… then… then comes the sludge, the misery 8)* (4:32) pounding, drone wall, early Swans in hell
