A wonderful collection of lovely melodies by OP Nayyar, the “Rhythm King” of Hindi film music, now known as Bollywood. This collection is a reflection of a gentler time filled with
beautiful melodies.

The songs are from the “Golden Era” of Hindi cinema -1950s and 1960s. They reflect an amazing diversity of International influences right from the use of piano, clarinet to yodeling.

What makes this collection special is OP Nayyar’s collaboration with the fantastically, versatile singer Asha Bhosle, whose style was influenced by Carmen Miranda to Jerry Lee Lewis. Other singers
featured include the wonderfully talented Mohammad Rafi, Geeta Dutt and Kishore Kumar.

Play any track.

****1. Geeta Dutt’s delightful melody from the 1964 film Aar Paar.
Minimal background music. The focus is on Dutt’s stunning vocals.
****2. A classic from the 1955 film Baap Re Baap. Starts off on a lovely galloping rhythm. Amazing yodeling by Kishore Kumar. Utterly delightful song.
***3. Slow song with a tinge of sadness. Reminds you of old Egyptian melodies that used piano in the background. Duet by Shamshad Begum & Kishore Kumar.
****4. A delightful classic song. Fuses Indian & Western musical elements. Duet by Geeta Dutt & Mohd Rafi from the 1956 film CID.
****5. Mellow & melodious track by Mohd Rafi from the 1957 film Tumse Nahin Dekha.
****6. Asha Bhosle’s mesmerizing classic from the 1958 super hit film Howrah Bridge.
****7. A Qawali influenced song by Mohammad Rafi & Asha Bhosle. A romantic classic song.
****8. This classic song epitomizes OP-Asha’s collaboration. A lovely blend of western & Indian fusion bed. Provides a great background for Asha’s voice.
****9. That galloping rhythm, which was a signature of OP Nayyar is present in this romantic song.
A beautiful melody by Asha Bhosle & Mohd Rafi from the 1957 film Naya Daur (New Era).
***10. This song highlights Asha’s vocals & OP Nayyar’s ability to fuse Indian & Western elements.
****11. Mid-tempo music. A wonderfully romantic duet. Have to marvel at the extraordinary dexterity of Mohd Rafi & Asha Bhosle’s voice. Of course, the sound engineers played their part.
***12. Wonderful romantic song by the terrific Mohammad Rafi. Watch out on how the piano is used in this song by OP Nayyar.
****14. Asha Bhosle shines in this song. She captures the mood that has a hint of sadness.
****15. The terrific Mohammad Rafi, who was a master of romantic songs without sounding sappy. Instead, there is a certain poetic quality about his voice. Watch out for the mix of Indian/Western music elements.
****15. This was the last track that Asha Bhosle & OP Nayyar collaborated. Slow & sad song.
